Friday Focus - September 4, 2020

Great Things I Noticed this Week: You all ROCKED the start of the school year. Seriously! With all the unknowns, you led the way in your classrooms. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

  • Staff helping each other out with technology tips after hearing issues.
  • Students introducing partners to the class.
  • Day 1 -submit 2 truths and a lie, Day 2-class kahoot to figure out the lie of each classmate.
  • Low stakes "get to know you" activities that are also submitted into Schoology to make sure that students know how to navigate the course and how to submit assignments. (We have MANY new students so this is important.)
  • Daily QR code check-in for students with a fun question like "if you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?) and a question to find out how students are doing or see if they have any questions.
  • Small group work, but with the modification of only one student writing with the marker (because there's less to sanitize then after).
  • Schoology set up with a Class Informational folder at the top that also contains a folder of tech info for students.

"Nuts & Bolts" Notes:

  • We have already started having student absences with students trying to get onto Bluejeans.  Treat each class as a possible livestreaming--check to see if you have someone logging in from home. Which also means, if you haven't shown your students where to find the bluejeans number for your class, do this TODAY!
  • Please turn in your seating charts to the office ASAP. You can either give Laura/Linda paper copy or email it. They will be putting them all into one binder.
  • Please add this to your Schoology course for students to access if they are having tech/login issues (or for new students): http://bit.ly/DSDTech
  • Guest teacher binders: bell schedule, your schedule, class lists, seating charts, and special concerns that a guest teacher must know (i.e. health concerns), lunch hour info. Have 1-2 emergency/generic lessons that can be easily utilized by a guest teacher.
  • A specialized extra duty (for lunch) will be put in your mailboxes. Please keep track of the days that you have your class for lunch.
Upcoming Events: REST UP THROUGH THE 3 DAY WEEKEND!!!!
  • Now that we have face coverings and all the other COVID business down, Marcia and I will have information for next week's advisory time to cover handbook information for students.
  • Tuesday - Chicken Nugget day (yes, that deserves noting)
  • Wednesday - Workout Wednesday
    • HS Faculty meeting at 3:05 in Bluejeans
  • Thursday - HS Faculty meeting at 3:05 in Bluejeans
If you want to plan ahead--Picture Day is September 14th.

Blogs, Quotes & Tweets:
*How To Cut Your Preparation Time and Lower Stress - I personally love this technique and use it often, but it only works if I write on a post-it note what I'm working on so if I get interrupted (or distract myself!) I can get back to it and stay focused.

*From a student on day 1: "We haven't been out of school for this long all our lives. We need to be here."
