Friday Focus - September 18, 2020

Great Things I Noticed this Week:

  • I appreciate how many of you step out into the hallway at passing time. Your presence helps curb issues, just like an officer on the side of the road gets everyone to slow down the speed!
  • Jeapordy game to make practice of math problems more fun (still lots of math problems, but put into the game).
  • Class activity of "Take a Stand." When given 2 different things to pick as a favorite to "take a stand" for students moved to their favored side of the room, then had to back up their opinion with reasons. Newspaper or Magazine? Sleeping in or Waking up Early? In person school or Virtual? Almost ALL picked in person school!
  • While students were discussing a question in partners, the teacher talked with the students in Bluejeans to give them an opportunity to talk/share.
  • Students working together at the scene of a crime outside (don't worry, it was actually Forensic Science!)
  • Students excited to meet with their STRIVE mentors. Thank you Mechelle and Lisa for coordinating this!
  • I have heard from a number of parents how much they appreciate how well bluejeans livestreaming is going with students being able to keep up with learning and continue to follow a schedule. I am not surprised, because I've been in several classrooms while you had students logged in from home and you are ROCKING it!

"Nuts & Bolts" Notes:

  • Thank you for your diligence in having accurate attendance in PowerSchool.  I know the extra steps for you are not easy and appreciate your attention to this. Mrs. Schreier/Mrs. Feilbach will send out a daily report so you can see if you missed a student. Here's a repeat from Mrs. Schreier:
    • If a parent contacts the office, the student is marked out for the day (or period) with the appropriate code (ex: Dr., personal, etc.)
    • If a student is present online (PR-OL), email Mrs. Schreier or Mrs. Feilbach to let them know to change it; OR if you don't see a code, but see the student online you can change it to PR-OL.
    • If you fail to take attendance for a period, it will show blank, which the office interprets as present.
    • If a student is marked absent and there has been no parent contact to the office, it will be changed to unexcused at the end of the day.
    • If a student has been in all classes virtually, but not in Study Hall (because why would they login for study hall?) we will count them as present.
    • My Note: Mrs. Schreier and Mrs. Feilbach spend a LOT of their day looking at attendance. If you don't take attendance in your class, it makes their jobs more difficult to try to figure out if students were here or not.
