Friday Focus - September 6, 2019

Great Things I Noticed this Week:
*Students collaborating and problem solving with the ozobots.
*Students performing skits for the do's and don'ts of lab safety with follow-up discussion.
*Class chalk talk on the word courage with a follow-up class discussion that went deeper.
*Students working together in teams for breakoutEDU.
*Video/research shared with students about how we are becoming addicted to phones, it is changing our brains... and that's why we don't have phones in school. I even heard from a parent that her child thought it was a good idea now that she knew this!
*Quizziz fun to find out more about the teacher. Students love learning those interesting facts about you to know you're a real person!
*Students working together in teams to go through the textbook and find the most interesting vocabulary/terms to complete A-Z list (they only got points if they were the only ones with that word). Great way to preview vocab and content to come this year.
*Students sharing individual input/responses on post-its to different questions around the room, along with small group discussion about things like: What do you need to be successful this year? What is a great classmate like? My favorite teachers are the ones who...
*Relationship building activities like sharing for colors of M&Ms pulled, dice games for get to know you, matching up by cards drawn, students sharing their own presentations about themselves or to introduce their partner to the class, etc.

"Nuts & Bolts" Notes:
*Please share your class syllabi with me via email or sharing in google drive.
*Pleas have your guest teacher binder/emergency plans put together by Friday, September 20th. This should include:
  1. Time schedule for your classes
  2. Lesson plan copy
  3. Seating charts for each period
  4. Class list for each period
  5. Any special instructions needed regarding student "need to knows" and to complete tasks/assignments
*Do you enjoy dancing or just having fun? The dance team is looking for faculty to join in the Homecoming assembly performance. Please let me know if you're interested and I can share the details with you. This should be fun for students to get to see some of their teachers surprise them on that day! :)
